Tours run on their own schedule. A rental car runs on yours. These are the ten drives our guests thank us for.
1. Macao Beach
Twenty-five minutes from Bávaro. Wild, wide and free to enter, with local shacks serving fresh fish. Go early for calm water.
2. Montaña Redonda
About ninety minutes north. Swings and hammocks suspended over a 360-degree view of lagoons and the Atlantic.
3. Hoyo Azul, Scape Park
A cenote of impossibly blue water at the foot of a cliff, right inside Cap Cana.
4. Playa Limón and Miches
A long coastal drive through coconut plantations to some of the emptiest beaches on the island.
5. Higüey and the Basílica
The spiritual heart of the region, and the best place to shop where locals shop.
6. Bayahíbe and Isla Saona
Drive to Bayahíbe in around ninety minutes and take a boat to Saona without the resort mark-up.
7. La Romana and Altos de Chavón
A Mediterranean-style stone village above the Chavón river, with a Roman-style amphitheatre.
8. Laguna Bávaro and Indigenous Eyes
Protected lagoons and freshwater swimming holes minutes from the hotels.
9. Samaná and El Limón waterfall
A long but spectacular day. Whale season runs from mid-January to mid-March.
10. Santo Domingo Colonial Zone
Two and a half hours on good highway to the oldest European city in the Americas.
Tell us which of these you want to do and we will recommend the right vehicle for the roads involved.
